May 21, 2022 Concert
Our concert on May 21 was an artistic and organizational success. Our youth orchestra joined our main symphony to perform two classical pieces, including Mussorgsky’s famous Pictures at An Exhibition (Ravel’s full orchestral arrangement), and performances by two of our Young Artists Competition winners who, as usual, were astonishingly good— Eduardo Muniz Villa, on viola, and Sana Schiffern on piano. We positioned an array of microphones and manned several video cameras to record the entire concert in high definition. We have published videos of three of the four pieces on YouTube, with the fourth coming soon. If you attended, you will want to relive the performances. If you did not, certainly you will want to see them after the fact.

September 11 Concert
Our first concert of the 2022-2023 season featured Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous Scheherazade, plus Irlande by Augusta Holmès and Fresh by contemporary American composer Molly Joyce. The superb violin solos were handled expertly by our concertmaster, Vanessa Moss. Scheherazade features all of the instruments in the orchestra, and they all responded with the dynamic and memorable passages that make the piece an audience favorite.

October 29 Concert
Our second concert of the year, “Halloween and Día de Los Muertos”, was performed Saturday night, October 29, at the Richland HS Auditorium. The orchestra and conductor had fun with Halloween costumes, as did many in the audience. In nine different pieces, we enjoyed classic classical music, rousing pieces by Mexican composers, some mysterious or scary music, and some beautiful pieces to restore us.
